The future is now!

On June 24, 2003, Resolution 664 was adopted by the City of North Kansas City, which affirmed the importance of broadband communications to the North Kansas City community. This summer, the City completed construction of liNKCity--a community-wide fiber-optic network which provides advanced fiber-optic access to every home and business in the City!

Prior to beginiing the project, the City already had two fiber-rings in place that connected City facilities. These rings provided the foundation for an extended fiber-optic network which was needed to provide the state-of-the-art technology to the residents and businesses of North Kansas City.  By building out the network and bringing fiber-optic technology right to each home or business, residents and businesses are now able to receive super-fast Internet speeds (much, much faster than the speeds offered today with DSL or cable modem service) at unprecedented quality for lower rates!

The fiber-optic network also allows the City to meet businesses' demand for advanced communications with much greater data-carrying capacity and much higher download and upload speeds than are available today. Businesses need virtually instant file transfer capability for graphics, medical images and large databases in order to complete in the global marketplace; schools and government need access to cost-effective video conferencing and innovative ways of utilizing technology to enhance services; hospitals need access to advanced telemedicine services–and the liNKCity fiber-optic network can provide all this and more.

Additionally, the fiber network is an important tool for economic development, providing critical infrastructure to support educational opportunities, affordable modern health care, regional competitiveness, economic growth and a better overall quality of life for the people and businesses of North Kansas City!
